A "graffiti war" has erupted in Karnataka's Mangaluru over the last three days. The former Karnataka minister and local Congress MLA, U.T. Khader on Sunday put forth a demand that the ruling BJP should arrest those involved in this malicious messaging.

"Do not instigate us to invite Lashkar-E-Toyaba or Talibanis to deal with Sanghis and Manuvadis, Lashkar-E-Taoyaba Zindabad!", graffiti appeared in Mengaluru last Friday. Replying this, graffiti stating the Sangh Parivar "is ready to take on anyone" was seen. Again on sunday, a graffiti in Urdu but scripted in English warned if anyone insults the Prophet, such person will be beheaded ("Gustak-E-Rasool, ek hi saja, sar dhad se alag") was seen. However, the city police remains silent to the news agencies. A senior police officer told that teams has been formed to identify culprits behind the graffiti exchange.

The MLA Khader angrily accused the district intelligence of sleeping. "How can the police allow communally minded graffiti to come up three days in a row?" he asked. He added, "These mischievous writings are not only misleading but also threaten communal peace in the city". MLA warned if Police did not arrest the accused then his party will start protests. "In the meanwhile I will meet Home Minister, Basavaraj Bommai and Chief Minister, B.S. Yediyurappa and submit a memorandum separately to them," he said. Always, the state's coastal region is considered to be highly communally sensitive, the city has a history of communal disturbances due to such mischievous messaging.
