The Good and Service Tax (GST) Council is ready to meet one last time before the declaration of the all-important budget on February 1.A bunch of conclusions is expected on the day, with focus on tax rate rationalization for several items. As mentioned by the GST Council Chief Arun Jaitley, one of his major goals for this year's budget will be to cut down the issues related to GST and optimize the rates.

With just last day left for the all-important GST meet, here's what people can expect:

- Reports say that the rate of GST on digital cameras might be decreased from 28 percent to 18 percent

- One of the major decisions that are on cards is bringing real estate to the land of GST.

- The authorities may take a call on bringing gasoline, diesel and natural gas under the purview of GST.

- Agriculture-related products, which farmers need on a daily basis, is expected to be put in the 5 percent bracket as against the earlier 5-18 percent.

- Tax on electric transport may also get a comfort.

- Reports have shown that the limit of the composition scheme can be increased from 1.5 million to 3-5 million.

- The e-bill is to be implemented from February 1, a possible framework is on cards before it comes into effect.

- Billing can be done in 3 months instead of taking the bill every month.

- GST on handicraft goods may be specified.

-  e-wallet rules possible to get change.

- Centralised registration can be provided for the bank, insurance and financial institutions. They just have to register in every state.

- Some restrictions related to input tax credit may be eliminated.

 

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the agriculture sector will be the top priority for the government because the country’s economic growth is not “justifiable and equitable” unless the benefits are “clear and evident” in the farm sector.Therefore, the government’s priority is to make sure the advantage reach to the farmers and the growth is visible even in the farm sector, he said at an event here.

India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world and the growth is benefiting people in different sectors.But a large area of population is dependent on the agriculture sector and unless the gains are clear and evident, the (economic) growth is not justifiable and equitable, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said.
