New Delhi: The government has issued guidelines for the vaccination of children in the coming weeks. While it has been learnt that the country's premier private hospital has started talks with various schools to provide coronavirus vaccination to children when the vaccine is available. Max Healthcare has said that it is looking for tie-ups with various major schools to support the government's vaccination drive. The report quoted Fortis Healthcare as saying that if the approved vaccine is introduced for children between the ages of 2-18 years, the hospital is thinking of tying up with schools, colleges and housing societies so that more and more children can be vaccinated.

So far the government has allowed Zydus Cadila's vaccine Zycov D to be used in children below 12 years of age. Bharat Biotech's Covaxin is also expected to be approved by the drug regulator soon after its Subject Expert Committee (SEC) recently recommended its use in children below the age of 2. Hospitals are considering the possibility of getting the vaccination done in the hospital premises. They are talking about providing infrastructure to schools and taking consent from parents. Another media report quoted a senior official of the private hospital as saying that we are in talks with the schools. Many people have said that once the government takes a decision, we are going to strengthen our stand. School infrastructure can be used for vaccination.

Many schools have contacted the hospital as soon as they reopen. According to media reports, it has also been said that schools are starting conversations not only about vaccination but also about security protocols, which they should follow again. Arvind Taneja, Chief Advisor for Pediatrics and Infectious Diseases at Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital Saket, has also said that the hospital is receiving questions about vaccination of children from parents and schools, especially before the session resumes. Taneja has said that coronavirus vaccines are very reliable and effective for children. Since schools are reopening, all children above 5 years of age should be vaccinated on a priority basis. They may be infected or asymptomatic carriers of the virus.
