Ahmedabad: Gujarat Congress chief Amit Chavda, executive chairman Hardik Patel and several party workers have been detained before the rally for the Hathras incident. This rally was being organized in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, to seek justice for the alleged gang rape and murder victim. Talking about the matter, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ravinder Patel said that, "Given the status of Covid-19 situation, the police has not allowed the Congress to hold a retaliatory rally ".

Apart from this, the officer also stated that, "Given the current coronavirus situation, it is not appropriate for anyone to gather in large numbers at one place." The officials further said that 'MLA Naushad Solanki, and State Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi were detained near the party headquarters on Ashram Road while Hardik Patel was detained by Gandhinagar police from his house . This rally was going to start from Kochrab Ashram near Congress headquarters and it was going to end at Sabarmati Ashram".

Gujarat Congress chief Amit Chavda shortly before he was taken into custody said, "Instead of taking action on the goons responsible for the rape, the BJP government and its police are taking us into custody. There was a non-political rally to raise voice against crime against women and demand justice for the victim of Hathras." On September 14, a 19-year-old girl was allegedly raped by four persons and she died on September 29 in Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital.
