In a bid to alleviate the hardships faced by farmers affected by Cyclone Biparjoy, the Gujarat government has announced a comprehensive relief package worth INR 240 crore. The cyclone, which struck the districts of Kutch and Banaskantha last month, resulted in significant losses for agricultural communities.

The relief package aims to provide financial assistance to address the damages incurred by standing crops, plants, and trees across approximately 1.30 lakh hectares of land in Kutch and Banaskantha. The impact of the cyclone led to the complete uprooting or partial destruction of numerous fruit trees during its landfall.

According to the government's official statement, farmers who experienced losses ranging from 10 to 33 percent of their perennial horticulture crops or trees will receive an assistance amounting to INR 25,000 per hectare.

In cases where the damage exceeds 33 percent of their total perennial horticulture crops or trees, farmers will be eligible for a higher compensation of INR 1.25 lakh per hectare, with a maximum limit of two hectares.

To avail themselves of the compensation, farmers whose names have been included in the survey teams' list must submit their applications to the respective taluka development officer.
