AHMEDABAD: Nearly 19 years ago, the main accused in the incident of burning of karsevaks at Godhra railway station in Panchmahal district of Gujarat, the police have finally been killed. Gujarat Police has arrested Rafiq Hussain from Godhra. According to the Panchmahal police, Rafiq Hussain was part of the core group that conspired in the Godhra carnage and was absconding for the past 19 years.
According to the information, the police had received intelligence input, after which raids were conducted in a house near the railway station from where Rafiq Hussain was arrested. Police say Rafiq Hussain had a big hand in arranging petrol to set the train compartment on fire, inciting the crowd and hatching the entire conspiracy. He is charged with inciting murder and rioting. Please tell that on 27 February 2002 in Gujarat, a train full of karsevaks was set on fire at Godhra station. A total of 59 karsevaks were killed in this accident. This was followed by the 2002 riots in Gujarat.
Police has said that Rafiq Hussain used to work at the station as a laborer at that time. When the train arrived, stones were thrown and petrol was sprinkled, it was also included in them. But after that incident, Rafiq Hussain escaped from here and lived around Delhi. Police said that recently we got information about him and the matter of shifting the family came to light. Recently he had come to meet him at his house, then and there seeing the opportunity the police held him.
