Naranpura (Gujarat) [India], Dec 14 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah casts his vote in a polling booth in Naranpura as the voting for the second phase of Gujarat Assembly elections has commenced.

I appeal the voters of Gujarat to come out and cast the votes for the development of the state and participate in the celebration of democracy, the BJP state president said on Thursday during the media briefing.

The voting will conclude till 5 pm in more than 25,000 polling stations.

In the second and concluding phase of elections, 93 constituencies spread across 14 districts in north and central Gujarat will set off to the polls.

The election is being seen as a neck to neck battle between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Newly Congress President Rahul Gandhi

Prominent candidates in the battleground of Gujarat include state deputy chief minister Nitin Patel, who is contesting from Mehsana in opposition to Jivabhai Patel of Congress.

Former Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel casts her vote in Ahmedabad's Ghatlodia. BJP's Bhupendra Patel is up against Congress's Shashikant Patel on this seat.

For the Second phase BJP Chief Amit Shah, FM Jaitley cast their votes along with Alpesh Thakor.

Alpesh Thakor, who coupled with the Congress, is in the hunt for election from Radhanpur constituency. Lavingji Thakor of the saffron BJP is contesting in opposition to him.

The Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in Sankheda's Sodhaliya village in Chhota Udaipur has recovered glitches for 50 minutes, so voting progress felt stop for that duration.

A total of 851 candidates are in the fray and over 2.22 lakh people will participate in the election to decide their fate.
