Friday, June 03, 2016:Gulbarg society case, there are mixed reactions to the judgment while all the parties worried are by and large pleased at present, they will discover lawful options after the quantum of punishment is proclaimed on June 6.

RC Kodekkar, the special public prosecutor who was part of the Special Investigation Team probing the case gave his reaction after the judgment,"We failed to convince the court about the conspiracy theory, though one of the witnesses said during her testimony that the accused had had a meeting. The accused had met to plan the attack on the residents of the society. It is possible that in the absence of corroborative evidence, the court was unconvinced."

He added, "So far as the conviction of 13 accused under lesser charges is concerned, we will discuss this issue with the investigation officer once the quantum of punishment is announced and may challenge it in the high court."

Abhay Bhardwaj, the defence advocate said, “the verdict clearly proves that the prosecution's conspiracy theory has collapsed and its intention to get all the accused convicted under Section 120 (b) has failed. It is also clear that the court has not accepted rape allegations made against the accused.”

Bhardwaj also said,"Activists attempting to implicate then chief minister Narendra Modi in the case have failed. Now, the 36 acquitted people are thinking of filing a case against activist Teesta Setalvad for compensation and for framing them falsely by fabricating evidence against them."
