According to media reports, the Election Commission has set a limit of Rs 70 lakh for one candidate in the Lok Sabha elections. Sunny has spent over 8 lakh 51 thousand rupees in her election campaign. The preliminary report revealed that they had spent Rs 18 lakh more than the prescribed limit. The District Electoral Officer had asked Sunny to send a notice and take the stand. In response, his lawyer had questioned several expenses.
Later, the district-level inquiry committee closely matched the re-election expenses. The committee also held a meeting with Sunny to match the expenses. The meeting was attended by two observers, district election officials and two nodal officers.
The committee rejected 9 lakh 76 thousand rupees involved in the expenditure after the probe. Sunny Deol's lawyer Sanjay Aggarwal says that the investigating committee has not been able to provide evidence of the additional Rs 8.5 lakh spent. The report will be challenged by the State Election Commission.
