CHANDIGARH: Guru Gobind Singh was the tenth Guru of Sikhism. The Sikh community views Guru Gobind Singh Ji's birth anniversary as a significant occasion. His 356th birthday is celebrated on this day. 

Guru Gobind Singh ji was born on Saptami Tithi of Shukla Paksha 1723 Samvat in the month of Pausha, according to the Hindu calendar. The anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh's birth will be observed on December 29, 2022.
Tens of thousands of followers visited Chandigarh on Thursday to pay respects to Guru Gobind Singh on the occasion of the 365th anniversary of the birth of the 10th Sikh guru at Harmandir Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The Golden Temple was decorated for the holidays.

Since early in the morning, thousands of devotees have defied the cold to visit the shrine and take a plunge in the sacred sarovar at the Golden Temple.

The Sikh devotees participated in Nagar Kirtan at Harmandir Sahib ahead of the birth anniversary of the 10th Sikh leader Guru Gobind Singh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Guru Gobind Singh."His unparalleled courage would carry on to motivate people for years to come," PM Modi tweeted, and posted a previous clip of his speech lauding the guru.

"I salute Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and think of his service to humanity on this holy occasion of his Parkash Purab. People will be inspired by his unmatched bravery for years to come "said the prime minister.

December 26 was celebrated as Veer Bal Diwas from 2022 as a tribute to the bravery and martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh's sons.
