NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took today took part in 'Veer Bal Diwas', a programme organised in the remembrance of Sahibzadas, sons of Guru Nanak Dev, at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in the national capital.
The PM participated in a 'Shabad Kirtan' performed by 300 'Baal Kirtanis' approximately. He is also set to flag off a march-past led by 3,000 children.
On the historic occasion, the Central government has organised interactive and participative programmes acorss country to inform and edifice the citizens, especially the youth, about the story of the exemplary courage of the Sahibzadas.
Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister noted, "On Veer Baal Diwas, we recall the courage of the Sahibzades and Mata Gujri Ji. We also remember the courage of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji".
To mark the day, contests for essays and quizzes as well as other events have been planned in schools and institutions across the country. Also, digital exhibits have been set up in public locations such as airports, petrol pumps, and railway stations. Programmes have been arranged across the country where dignitaries will explain the life story and sacrifice of the Sahibzadas.
Earlier this year, the Prime Minister said that the 26th of December would henceforth be observed as "Veer Baal Diwas" in honour of the "Sahibzadas," the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh, the final Sikh guru, who shown great bravery.
While all 4 were martyred, the date has been selected as it was the day observed as the martyrdom day of the Sahibzadas Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh, who were killed at the tender age of six and nine in Sirhind (Punjab) by Mughal forces.
