New Delhi: A man allegedly stabbed his mother to death in Gurugram on suspicion of having an illicit relationship with someone, police said on Sunday. After committing the murder, the accused kept the mother's body under a cot in the room and escaped by locking it from outside. The police were informed when a foul smell emanated from the room. On the complaint of the woman's brother, the police registered a case at the Sector 10A police station and arrested the accused son from Gurugram Rohtak. The accused was produced in court and sent to jail.

The accused has been identified as 20-year-old Pravesh. The police have also recovered the knife used in the crime from the accused. Apart from this, the keys of the lock outside, the clothes worn at the time of the incident and the mobile phone of the deceased have also been recovered. According to the information, 40-year-old Sona, originally a resident of Sonipat, was living with her son Pravesh in the village Garhi Harsaru. Her husband had already passed away. Sona had not been seen by the neighbours for several days. On the night of August 10, a foul smell started emanating from the room. The police were then informed.

When the Sector 93 chowki police reached the spot, the room was locked from the outside. When the door of the room was broken, the woman's body was lying under the cot. The police team started the investigation in the presence of the duty magistrate. The police informed the deceased's brother Parvinder. He identified his sister. ACP Crime Pritpal Sangwan has said that the accused son stabbed the mother with a knife after having dinner on the night of August 6 on suspicion of illicit relations. Then strangled her to death. After committing the murder, the accused hid the body under the cot in the room and escaped by locking it outside. The accused revealed during interrogation that his mother used to talk to someone on the phone till late at night. Because of that, he was suspicious. The accused was produced before a court and sent to jail, he said.
