UNITED NATIONS: Ghulam Mohammad Isaczai of Afghanistan has been appointed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as his new deputy special representative for Iraq in the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the United Nation chief's press office, Isaczai will also act as the nation's resident coordinator and the UN's humanitarian coordinator.

Isaczai succeeds Irena Vojackova-Sollorano of Germany "to whom the UN Secretary-general is thankful for her leadership and dedicated service during her tenure", as per the official statement.
Isaczai offers more than 28 years of expertise in complex humanitarian, development, rehabilitation, and peace-building environments to this post.

Since January 2022, he has been Jordan's resident and temporary humanitarian coordinator.
He has held the positions of resident coordinator in Azerbaijan and the ambassador and permanent representative of Afghanistan to the United Nation in New York. Earlier in his career, he worked for the UN system in Germany, Nepal, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, and Iraq in a variety of policy, development, and humanitarian roles.
