VARANASI: The hearing in the Gyanvapi case was postponed by the district court in Varanasi on Friday and was set for October 11.

The court was scheduled to rule on the Hindu side's request for carbon dating of the object they claimed to be a Shivling discovered inside the wuzu khana of the Gyanvapi Mosque.

Prior to the key hearing, A heavy police force was deployed outside the premises of the court.

In the Gyanvapi mosque-Shrinagar Gauri issue, four women asked for scientific analysis and carbon dating to determine the type and date of the Shivling.

When the survey was being undertaken, the Hindu side claimed to have discovered a shivling in the mosque's ablution pond. After hearing the arguments from both parties, the court had reserved the decision in the Gyanvapi Mosque-Shringar Gauri issue on September 29.

In the Gyanvapi mosque-Shringar Gauri complex case, the Muslim side objected to the Hindu plaintiffs' request for the carbon dating of the "Shivling" in court.

Carbon dating is a scientific process that determined the age of an archaeological object or archaeological finds.
On September 22, the Hindu side demanded that the Shivling-like structure undergo carbon dating and other scientific tests.

This was opposed not only by the Muslim side's Anjuman Inazaniya Masajid Committee but also by plaintiff number one, Rakhi Singh of the Hindu side.

In court, the attorneys had raised a concern that carbon dating would harm the building.
