West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is her birthday today. Mamata was born on 5 January 1955 in a lower-middle-class family in Kolkata. Mamata Banerjee's father was a freedom fighter. He died due to lack of medical facilities. At the age of just 17, Mamta lost her father. The responsibility of the family was also on Mamta's shoulders. She raised her siblings by selling milk. Mamata Banerjee completed her Bachelor of Law and Master of Arts from Calcutta University. Know the journey of struggles of Mamata from being a milk vendor to running Bengal's power on her birthday. 

Active in politics during college: According to the information received, Mamata Banerjee made her step in politics in the 70s by the Congress party in college. She soon grew in stature in the Congress and was elected as the General Secretary of the Women's Congress by the party. Mamata became the youngest MP in India in the 1984 general election. She won this election by defeating Somnath Chatterjee from Jadavpur seat. Mamta Banerjee won the Lok Sabha elections from Kolkata seat in 1996, 1999, 2004 and 2009. In 1991, Banerjee took charge as Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Youth Affairs, Sports and Women and Child Development in Rao Government.

Quit Congress and form your own party: In 1993, Mamata Banerjee also resigned from the Sports Ministry. In 1996, he accused the Congress of being a puppet of the CPI (M) in West Bengal. In 1997, she also formed the All India Trinamool Congress Party. Not only this, in 2011, the CPI (M) and the Left parties' government, which has been ruling continuously for 34 years, showed the way out. In 1999, she became part of the NDA and became the Railway Minister. Mamta split from NDA in 2011.

Live an ordinary life: Mamata Banerjee has fought many battles in her life. She loves to live a normal life as compared to other CMs. Mamata Banerjee still lives in her ancestral house in Kolkata. Despite being CM, she is seen wearing simple slippers and white sari.
