Today is the birthday of the famous Indian theatre choreographer, dancer, and silver screen favorite grandmother Zohra Sehgal. Zohra Sehgal, who has won the hearts of the audience through more than 50 domestic and foreign films and TV serials, was born on April 27, 1912, in Saharanpur, UP. Zohra Sehgal's real name was Mumtaz-Ullah Khan but she became Zohra Sehgal after marrying dancer and performer Kameshwarnath Sehgal. The wedding took place on August 14, 1942.

She met Kameshwar Nath at Uday Shankar's school in Almora. She gave birth to daughter Kiran and son Pawan after marriage. Unfortunately, her husband died in her youth. She then struggled and brought up the children. Zohra Sehgal gave her first public dance performance with Uday Shankar in 1935. On the other hand, her first break in films was in 1946. A. Abbas gave the name of the film 'Prithvi Ke Lal'. In her film career, she acted in memorable Bollywood films like Neecha Nagar, Afsar, Dil Se, Kal Ho Nahin Ho, Veer-Zara, and Chini Kam.

Interestingly, Zohra Sehgal worked with actors from all generations in her film journey, ranging from Prithviraj Kapoor to her great-grandson Ranveer Kapoor. In 2012, her biography "Zohra Sehgal: Fatty" appeared in public, written by her daughter Kiran Sehgal. Zohra Sehgal passed away on July 10, 2014, at the age of 102.
