4 candidates died from corona in West Bengal assembly elections

Kolkata: An independent candidate from Malda district died of corona in the West Bengal assembly elections on Monday night. Sameer Ghosh, 42, is the fourth candidate whose life has gone to Corona. He was found to be infected with corona on April 15. Earlier, Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Kajal Sinha had died of corona from Khardah assembly seat in North 24 Parganas.  Kajal breathed her last at a Kolkata hospital on Sunday. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has expressed grief over her death.

He wrote in a post on social media, "Very sad news, our candidate from Khardah Kajal Sinha passed away due to coronavirus. He dedicated his life to the service of the people. He was a committed member who served for a long time for TMC. We will remember him. My condolences to his family and fans". It may be recalled that two other candidates, Pradin Nandi, Rizaul Haque, Corona, have lost their lives so far this month. While Pradeep was Jangipur candidate from the revolutionary Socialist Party, Rizaul Haq was in the fray on a Congress ticket from Shamsherganj

Earlier, several candidates including Union Minister Babul Supriyo have been hit by corona in the Bengal elections. In West Bengal, 16,000 new corona cases have been registered on Monday. Meanwhile, 68 people have died in corona in the state. There are currently around 95,000 active cases of Covid-19 in the state. The state is scheduled to go to polls in the last phase on Thursday and the results will come on May 2.
