Talking to a famous website, he recalled Nanda and said, "I did my first film with her. She was very senior to me but she didn't even let me realize that. Nandaji had a clear glimpse of kindness." At the same time, he added, "The second film I did with him was anonymous, a little part of which I wrote, and at the behest of the producers, I also became the director of that film and so I had to instruct a big artist like Nandaji. But he worked with me so politely that I became convinced of him since that day."

Veteran actor Manoj Kumar and Nanda's most popular film was 'Shore'. Manoj Kumar said, "He was supposed to take Sharmila Tagore for the film earlier but things didn't work out. Then I sent an offer to Smita Patil to do the character but she refused. Then my wife Shashi said why don't you take Nanda? I said she doesn't like being such a big star and why would she do what others have forbidden?''

Manoj further said, 'Then I called Nanda ji to visit.' She said that 'I will do this film of yours on one condition and that condition is that I will not take one rupee from you for this film. You can't repay anyone's favor, but still I tried my best to take Nandaji's favour, but I couldn't do it.'
