Happy Birthday Mayavati, Looking at her Biggest Political Milestones

Kumari Mayawati, an Indian politician who has served four separate terms as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, is celebrating her birthday today, January 15.

Born of January 15, 1956 in New Delhi, Mayawati's father Prabhu Ram was a post office employee. The acclaimed leader had to fight various battles in her life to reach where she is today.

Mayawati is India's first female Dalit chief minister and the country's youngest female chief minister. This woman has power and all the burdens that come with power on her plate because she has been elected four times as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Even though her work now revolves around politics, this was not how she began her career.

She began her career as a teacher, but Kanshi Ram's ideas and his actions had a huge impact on her. She was initially captivated by his work and subsequently joined him in politics. Even though she lost the 2003 elections, she managed to win them back in 2007.

Mayawati's political career has been fairly successful. She now serves as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, is a member of the Bahujan Samaj Party, and is affectionately known among her supporters as "behenji." To learn more about her life and works, keep reading.

Career:  Mayawati continued to teach until 1984. When Kanshi Ram founded his political party, the Bahujan Samaj Party, in 1984, she was greatly motivated by his endeavours and made a significant career change. She left her position as a teacher and joined the party full-time. She ran for office for the first time in the same year from the Muzaffarnagar district's Kairana Lok Sabha constituency. Once more, they ran campaigns for Lok Sabha seats in the years 1985 and 1987, and eventually the party won 13 seats in 1989. She was appointed as the coalition government's youngest chief minister of Uttar Pradesh in 1995.

Kanshi Ram appointed Mayawati to succeed him as the Party's leader in 2001. From 2002 to 2003, she was re-elected as Chief Minister under the Bhartiya Janta Party coalition. However, after this period, Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav, who represented the B.J.P., developed bitter rivalries. As a result, the B.J.P withdrew its support for her, and Mulayam Singh Yadav took over as chief minister.

Due to Mayawati's dictatorial style of governing, the majority of OBCs lost their support, preventing the BSP from expanding its power beyond the U.P. She is claimed to have built a lot of statues honouring Dalits and Buddhism during her time in power.

Politics Contribution:  Although there is much discussion about it, Mayawati is credited with providing moral support and serving as a role model for the Dalits of this country, particularly in Uttar Pradesh. Regardless of how contentious this claim may be, her supporters have repeatedly shown their allegiance to her. She has earned such respect and confidence from the Dalits that it is nearly guaranteed that they won't desert her, at least not soon.
