Mohit Chauhan is an Indian playback singer, best known for his work in Hindi films. He was part of the Silk Route Band. Chauhan has won two Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback Singer and three Zee Cine Awards for Best Male Playback Singer. He has recorded many songs for Indian films and albums in other languages. He is one of the most prominent indie pop singers of India.

Mohit Chauhan was born on 11 March 1966 in Nahan town of Sirmaur district, Himachal Pradesh. He received his early education from St. Xavier's School Delhi and then moved to Himachal Pradesh for further studies. He earned a Master of Science in Geology from a government college at Dharamshala affiliated with Himachal Pradesh University. He has not obtained any formal training in music. He got influenced by his grandfather who was a classical singer. He used to sing and play guitar, harmonium, and flute. He wanted to become an actor before his debut in the music industry.

Mohit Chauhan was the singer of KM Trivedi and Kenny Puri Silk Route. His debut album Boondein was released in 1998 and included the popular songs "Dooba Dooba" and "Pehchan". The second album was released in 2000. After the closure of Silk Route in 2008, he released another album, "Fitoor" in 2009. His film singing career began in 2002 when he sang "Pehli Nazar Mein" from the film 'Road.' His songs "Khoon Chala" by Rang De Basanti and "Tum Se Hi" from 'Jab We Met' are considered most notable. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Playback Singer for Geet Masqali in 2010.
