KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya who landed in the trobule for their sexist comment on filmmaker Karan Johar’s chat show Koffee with Karan have been handed a fine of Rs 20 lakh. The duo will pay Rs 1 lakh each to ten widows on Bharat ke veer app and the remaining amount will be funded to the blind cricket association.
According to the statement released by the ombudsman on the BCCI website “Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul fined 20 Lakh rupees by the BCCI ombudsman in regard to their appearance on Koffee With Karan. They will have to pay 1,00,000 to ten widows on Bharat ke veer app and 10,00,000 to the fund of cricket association for blind.”
Furthermore, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ombudsman DK Jain has given the players a deadline of four weeks to pay the fines. A failure to do so would grant BCCI the permission to deduct the amount from the pair's match fees.
The Supreme Court Justice also suggested that the players had missed out on earning of about Rs 30 lakh after being sent back home from Australia. The same has been considered but the fine has yet been handed as the cricketers in the country are role models and have to behave in an acceptable manner.
The cricketers have also been directed to pay the amount within four weeks from the date of receipt of the order.
After their controversial appearance on the talk show, the duo were suspended from the team and were subsequently asked to return to India from the Australia tour.
