MEHSANA: Patidar quota leader Hardik Patel has been sentenced to jail for two years in links with a case of destruction at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Rushikesh Patel's office in Visnagar during 2015 Patidar agitation.

Hardik Patel, who is the convener of the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS), was convicted by the Visnagar Court in Gujarat on Wednesday. According to reports fine of Rs 50,000 has also been slapped on the Patidar agitation leader.

 Besides Hardik, Sardar Parel Group (SPG) convener Lalji Patel and another Patidar leader Ambalal Patel have also been convicted .They have been sent to jail for two years with a fine of Rs 50,000 each.

 Worth mention here the trio has been found guilty under 147.148.149 427 and 435.

It is noted that Hardik and others are accused of rummage through the office of Visnagar MLA Rishikesh Patel during the agitation rally of Patidar community in July 2015.

On a related note Hardik's Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti has been protesting seeking quota for the Patel community under Other Backward Classes in Gujarat for reservation in government jobs and education. The protests in 2015 lead by Hardik had put the nation on Rusk storm. At a number of places, these protests had even taken a violent turn.
