Chandigarh: Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal has attacked the government of Pakistan in a befitting manner. Harsimrat Kaur has condemned the government of Pakistan for levying a service fee of USD 20 (about Rs 1420) from Kartarpur pilgrims. These pilgrims will visit the Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara through the Kartarpur Corridor which will be opened for pilgrims in November. Sharing a video from her tweeter account, Kaur wrote that the fee levied by the Government of Pakistan was atrocious. In the video, Kaur says that it is shameful if Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan thinks that the imposition of service charges will boost his economy.
He further asked how a poor pilgrim would pay such a service fee. This corridor will connect Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur with Dera Baba Nanak temple in Gurdaspur district of Punjab. This corridor will facilitate visa-free movement of Indian pilgrims, who only need to obtain a permit to visit Kartarpur Sahib.
It was founded in the year 1522 by Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism. According to Pakistan media reports, this corridor will also be the first visa-free corridor between the two neighbouring countries. India and Pakistan held several high-level meetings to conduct the corridor before the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev. On the imposition of service charges, India has said that an agreement has been reached between New Delhi and Islamabad on all other issues except the service charge case.
