Chandigarh: After the death 22 innocent students in a massive fire in Surat city of Gujarat, Haryana government has taken a call to inspect public places in order to ascertain their compliance with fire safety norms.
According to the report, the government led by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar aims to conclude these inspections within a month's time. These include cinema halls, coaching centres, hostels and multi-storey complexes among other public places.

The meeting chaired by Urban Local Bodies minister Kavita Jain on Thursday took the decision. While addressing the meeting on fire safety measures across the state, the minister also announced the setting up of a fire control room at Panchkula in the Directorate of fire services. Shedding light on how the state government wished to complete the inspection in a timely manner, Jain informed that the initiative will be carried out in three phases.

The move was prompted by the massive blaze which claimed 22 lives at Takshashila complex in Surat and the fire which killed 17 people at Hotel Arpit Palace in Karol Bagh area of the national capital in February of this year
Municipal corporations will be inspected the initial phase and the second phase will comprise a survey of municipal committees followed by an inspection of municipalities in the third and final phase.
