Chandigarh: A village named Babarpur, which falls under the Panipat district of Haryana, will henceforth be known as Guru Nanak Pur. This announcement has been made by the Khattar government of the state. Cm Manohar Lal Khattar has said that the work of changing the name is good. It is the job of the government to correct the mistakes of history. Therefore, seeing the sentiments of the people, this resolution was passed and the government also accepted it.

Before making this announcement, CM Khattar today visited the historic first Patshahi Gurdwara Sahib in Panipat. "Today, after paying obeisance at the historic first Patshahi Gurdwara Sahib in Panipat, I prayed to the first Guru of Sikhism, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, for the happiness and prosperity of all the people of the state. Let me tell you that the news of changing the name of Babarpur was coming earlier too, but today when Manohar Lal Khattar went on a tour of Panipat district, it was officially announced. According to reports, the name could be changed due to Pramod Vij, MLA from Panipat city assembly constituency.

To change the name of Babarpur, Vij had said in the Municipal Corporation House that since Guru Nanak Dev Ji came to Panipat, Babarpur should be named Nanakpur. After Vij's arguments, the House unanimously accepted the decision and the government also stamped the decision. Vij then thanked the Khattar government for listening to him.
