For the last few days, the entire country is in crisis due to Corona epidemic. Meanwhile, a shocking incident of ground crack has come to light in Khedi-Kanti village of Narnaul, Haryana, and the exact cause will be revealed only after the completion of the investigation. Compared to other areas, this type of danger is much greater in those places in Aravali area where indiscriminate groundwater is being exploited. This case of a crack in the ground is a sign of a big danger in the coming time. This danger is less than an earthquake but more than the exploitation of groundwater. In the Khedi-Kanti village, where there has been an occurrence of one to three feet wide and about one km long circular cracks, the groundwater level has reached more than 20 feet below in two years.
According to experts, the land had become hollow due to exploitation. The earthquake on July 3, when the geological movement increased when the ground cracked. The rain that followed then widened this crack. Somewhere in the Aravalli region, an accurate assessment of the water level is also not possible, because instead of groundwater, the water-filled between the rocks in many areas is also being extracted with the help of wells.
Senior Hydrologist VS Lamba has said in his statement that "I myself went to that spot. The matter of land bursts is the result of excessive groundwater exploitation. The earthquake of July 3 and the subsequent rains brought the stir within. However, after a more in-depth investigation, the final conclusion will be revealed. In the year 1966, all the tube wells were in Haryana, now in Mahendragarh district alone. Now it is being thoroughly investigated. Only after investigation, everything will be clear."
