The Haryana government has unveiled a new policy, offering a 10% job reservation for Agniveers in specific roles. Chief Minister Nayab Saini announced this initiative, which provides horizontal reservation in direct recruitment for positions such as constable, mining guard, forest guard, jail warden, and Special Police Officers (SPO).

Highlighting the welfare-oriented nature of the Agnipath scheme, implemented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 14, 2022, Saini emphasized its benefits for the youth. "Agniveers receive four years of training in the Army. Post-training, our government is committed to offering these young individuals job opportunities," the Chief Minister stated.

Key Announcements by the Haryana CM

  • Age Waivers: Agniveers will benefit from a three-year age relaxation for Group B and C employment. The first batch of Agniveers will receive a five-year age waiver.
  • Job Reservation: The state will provide a 5% horizontal reservation for Agniveers in civil posts within Group C jobs and a 1% reservation in Group B jobs.
  • Industrial Subsidies: If an Agniveer earns more than Rs.30,000 per month from an industrial unit, the Haryana government will offer a subsidy of Rs. 60,000 per annum to the employer.
  • Loan Facilities: Agniveers are eligible for a loan of Rs.5 lakh to support their post-service endeavors.

This announcement comes amid criticism from the Congress, which has labeled the Agnipath scheme as creating "use-and-throw laborers." However, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh defended the scheme, noting it was developed after extensive consultation with 158 organizations and careful consideration.

Under the Agnipath scheme, youths aged between 17 and a half and 23 years are recruited into the Army for a four-year term, with a provision to retain 25% of them for an additional 15 years.

This new reservation policy by the Haryana government aims to integrate trained Agniveers into civilian roles, providing them with stable career opportunities and supporting their transition from military to civilian life.
