London: Indian businessman Nirav Modi, who has gone abroad after crores of crores to Indian banks, will be presented for regular hearing in the court of Westminster Magistrate of UK. Nirav Modi, imprisoned in Wandsworth Prison, will appear before the court through video link from jail. The hearing on his extradition is scheduled to begin on May 11 and is expected to last about five days. Nirav Modi had applied for bail in November last year, offering a house arrest guarantee. This was an unprecedented offer as suspected persons in cases of terrorism are thus barred. Nirav Modi also said that his mental health had deteriorated after being arrested in Wandsworth Jail after being arrested in March.

However, Chief Magistrate Emma Arbaughnott dismissed her bail plea in view of the possibility of influencing the witnesses and fleeing the case at the proposed hearing in May. Britain's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) had said that earlier this year the High Court of Britain had rejected Nirav Modi's petition, so there was no possibility of appeal for bail in the High Court.
