Mumbai: At least 11 people lost their lives after being hit by the scorching sun during the 'Maharashtra Bhushan' award ceremony held in an open field in Navi Mumbai on Sunday. Lakhs of people participated in the programme. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also given this award to spiritual leader and social reformer Appasaheb Dharmadhikari at a function organised in the Kharghar area of Raigad district, located in the neighbourhood of Mumbai. A police official has said that some patients are on ventilators in hospitals in Navi Mumbai and Panvel, and their condition is being monitored.

This information was received from the CMO: The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) has said in an advertisement on Sunday night that "at least 11 people died due to strong sunlight." The police officer has said that some patients have been discharged from the hospital after recovery, while others are still admitted and remain under the supervision of doctors.

24 still admitted: told reporters outside a hospital in Mumbai that at least 50 people have been admitted to the hospital, out of which 24 are still admitted while the rest were discharged after first aid. He described these deaths as 'very unfortunate'.

The maximum temperature has been recorded at 38 degrees Celsius by the meteorological station closest to the spot. Shinde said that a compensation of five lakh rupees is also going to be given to the next of kin of each deceased. Continuing his point, he has said, "Due to this incident, free treatment is going to be provided to the people admitted to the hospital. The state government is going to pay for his treatment from its own treasury." The Chief Minister also directed the officials that if patients required additional treatment, they should be sent to specialised hospitals.
