New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave warning for Maharashtra on Wednesday, May 17. In its latest bulletin, the IMD said, “temperature is expected  to rise by 2-3°Centigrade over many parts of Maharashtra from 17th May." Heatwave conditions in isolated pockets are also likely over Vidarbha today, and in Odisha for the next three days, IMD added.

Heatwave is also expected today and tomorrow in coastal Andhra Pradesh as well as in Gangetic West Bengal, the weather department said.The majority of northwest, central, and adjacent eastern India, as well as northern peninsular India, experienced maximum temperatures on Sunday that ranged from 40 to 44°C; these conditions are expected to last for the next five days. The rest of the nation's temperatures aren't expected to shift significantly, according to IMD.

Maximum temperatures in coastal areas of Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Vidarbha were 2-4°C over average, but temperatures elsewhere in the nation were normal.

During northeast India, light to moderate widespread rainfall is expected during the next five days, according to IMD. On Monday and Tuesday, Arunachal Pradesh could get heavy rain in remote areas.

Meghalaya, Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura will likely receive showers Monday to Friday. Dust storms are expected across Punjab and Haryana on Monday and in sporadic locations over Rajasthan through Thursday, said the weather bureau.
