CHENNAI: The Regional Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a new forecast on Saturday, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in numerous districts of Tamil Nadu until May 17. According to the forecast, the afflicted areas are Salem, Dharmapuri, Tiruchi, Peramballur, Namakkal, and Thanjavur.
In the following days, moderate to heavy rain is expected in Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Kallakurichi, Myladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Tirupattur, and Vellore. On these days, thunderstorms with light to heavy rain are also expected across Chennai and the surrounding regions, according to the forecast.
The maximum temperature will probably be about 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be around 24 degrees. On Friday, Velankanni received the most rain, followed by Talavadi in Erode and Yercaud in Salem.
Following the weatherman's report, the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary has issued instructions to all district collectors, quick response force, emergency departments, police, revenue, and health officials to be on high alert.
