NEW DELHI: The much-anticipated Southwest Monsoon is expected to arrive in Kerala on May 27, instead of June 1, as expected, according to the IMD.

The advent of the monsoon is widely anticipated since it has such a significant impact on India's agriculture and economy. "The onset of the southwest monsoon in Kerala this year is expected to be earlier than usual. The monsoon is expected to arrive on May 27 in Kerala, with a model error of four days "According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Initial monsoon rains fall over the south Andaman Sea, and monsoon winds move north-westward through the Bay of Bengal in the Indian monsoon region. According to usual monsoon onset/progression dates, the southwest monsoon crosses the Andaman Sea around May 22.

"Conditions are becoming favourable for the advance of the Southwest Monsoon into the South Andaman Sea, Nicobar Islands, and certain sections of southeast Bay of Bengal around May 15," the IMD said. According to the IMD, there is no correlation between the date of monsoon advance over the Andaman Sea and the date of monsoon onset over Kerala or the seasonal monsoon rainfall over the country.
