Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav held an emergency meeting on Thursday, September 12, to address the impact of excessive rainfall across the state. The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s residence in Bhopal, brought together divisional commissioners, police officials, and district collectors through video conferencing.
The state has experienced significant rainfall over the past 24 hours, leading to the opening of several dam gates to manage the increased water levels. On Wednesday, two gates of the Kaliyasot Dam and one gate of the Bhadbhada Dam in Bhopal were opened. The Kaliyasot Dam, located on the Kaliyasot River, and the Bhadbhada Dam, built on the Bada Talab (Upper Lake), are crucial for flood management in the area. Additionally, the gates of the Tighra Dam, a freshwater reservoir near Gwalior, were also opened.
The Meteorological Office has forecasted heavy rain with lightning for the morning hours in Morena, Gwalior, Sheopur Kalan, Shivpuri, Bhind, and Ashoknagar districts. Moderate rain with lightning is expected in Datia, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Guna, Vidisha, Raisen, Sagar, Damoh, Chhatarpur, and Panna districts. Light rain with lightning is anticipated in Bhopal, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Agar Malwa, Sehore, Narmadapuram, Harda, Khandwa, Khargone, Burhanpur, Barwani, Dhar, Indore, Dewas, Ujjain, Ratlam, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Betul, Seoni, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Mandla, Dindori, Shahdol, Anuppur, Katni, Umaria, Satna, Maihar, Rewa, Mauganj, and Sidhi districts.
Earlier, the Regional Meteorological Office issued a red alert for excessive rainfall in Bhind, Shivpuri, Ashoknagar, Vidisha, Raisen, and Sagar districts, with rainfall potentially exceeding 204.5 mm. An orange alert was issued for Morena, Sheopur, Gwalior, Datia, Guna, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Damoh, and Panna districts, with rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm. A yellow alert was issued for the remaining districts in the state.
