Ranchi: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was taken back to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) after the Champai Soren-led Jharkhand government secured victory in the Trust Vote in the State Assembly on Monday. The newly formed government passed the confidence motion with a 47:29 majority. In the 81-member assembly, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, with 29 seats, and its ally Congress with 17, were confident of smoothly passing the Trust Vote. Hemant Soren, arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement in an alleged land scam, was present in the Assembly after a special court in Ranchi allowed his participation in the vote.

During the debate, Hemant Soren asserted that his arrest exemplifies the oppression faced by tribals, Dalits, and minorities in society. He criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), expressing confusion about the central government's animosity toward adivasis and dalits, accusing them of suggesting that these communities should remain in jungles. Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, initiating the trust motion debate, accused the Centre of misusing agencies and pointed out the arrest of Hemant Soren, stating that the ruling government misused agencies.

The JMM-Congress-RJD alliance comprehensively won the floor test with 47 votes in favor against the BJP and its allies, securing only 29 votes. Following the Trust Vote, Hemant Soren, who was earlier remanded to ED custody, was taken back to face ongoing legal proceedings. The political developments in Jharkhand highlight the ongoing power struggle and tensions between political parties.
