The 2022 Toyota Tundra pickup truck has arrived with a new engine, based on a new chassis and suspension arrangement, as well as interior and exterior makeovers and new technology, after a 15-year hiatus.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra will be offered in SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794, and TRD Pro trim levels, with manufacturing set to begin in November at Toyota's San Antonio factory. The F1 platform has a high-strength boxed, steel-ladder structure, as well as aluminum to minimize the vehicle's weight. Toyota claims that the rigidity and off-road capability of the new generation Tundra is now substantially improved than the previous model.

Toyota has removed the V8 engine that powered the previous Tundra for the 2022 generation. Instead, two 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engines, one of which is a hybrid, have been installed by the Japanese automaker. Despite opting for a less powerful engine, the Tundra benefits from the new platform's less weight, making it a more powerful performer on the road. The IC V6 engine produces 389 bhp and 650 Nm of peak torque, easily surpassing the 5.7-litre V8 that powered the previous model.

An electric motor has a 288-volt 1.5-kilowatt-hour battery support the hybrid powertrain. It has a max torque of 790 Nm and 437 horsepower. If driven at speeds below 30 kmph, the hybrid powertrain may transform the Tundra into an electric-only vehicle. Both engines are connected to a new 10-speed gearbox with a towing capability of almost 5,500 kg. A spring rear suspension has also been installed, allowing for a maximum box load capacity of 880 kgs. Some versions will additionally include rear air suspension with many modes of adjustment.

While the exterior improvements are largely restricted to the Tundra's front end, which now features a newly engineered double wishbone system, the inside has seen the greatest alterations. As standard, it comes with a panoramic roof, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a 14.0-inch infotainment screen. To keep the Tundra safe during off-road activities, there is a 360-degree camera that displays the outside from different perspectives. There are additional cameras to monitor goods in the bed or on a trailer linked to the truck. Tow mirrors that expand and fold at the push of a button are also available. The touchscreen system also gets Apple Car Play and Android Auto integration, with voice commands for some of the trims. There is also a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as well.

The Toyota Tundra 2022 will be on sale later this year, with the hybrid model following soon after. It will compete with trucks like the Ford F150 and Ram 1500. Pricing information will be released closer to the debut date.
