Nick Jonas, Priyanka Chopra's pop-star husband, has brought hope to Solapur's clothing sector, which is battling to survive amid the Covid-19 epidemic.

During The Jonas Brothers' recent 'Remember This Tour,' Nick donned a printed shirt and uploaded a photo on social media. The shirt's fabric and pattern are reminiscent of the renowned GI-tagged Solapur Chaddar, a cotton blanket. The image circulating on social media has drawn attention to the cloth, and local producers believe that netizens' interests may offer a much-needed lifeline to the sector. 

Jain said, “In the last one and a half years the textile and garment industry in Solapur is facing a tough time. Especially, the garment industry, which makes school uniforms for the majority of firms in India has suffered heavy losses as there was no demand as schools were shut. Many garment industrialists are moving towards the fashion industry and Jonas’ shirt has given them a ray of hope”.

Solapur Chaddar is a GI-labeled product that is recognized for its durability, design, and all-season use. Many Chaddar manufacturers in Solapur have gone online in the last year and a half to market their wares. No surprise, they are grateful to Nick Jonas for indirectly assisting their endeavour.

Surprisingly, mentions of Solapur Chaddar abound in the comments section on Jonas' Instagram photo. “That garment is truly fashioned out of Indian blanket,” one Netizen observed, while another simply said, “Solapur ki cheddar.”

“Search engines will see an increase in searches for Solapur Chhadar. Consider someone here introducing the concept of a Chaddar shirt. He would have been ridiculed. But fashion trends set by stars definitely help. We hope that there is more publicity for Solapur Chaddar. It is only going to help us in these testing times,” said industrialist Darshan Kocher.
