GUJRAT: India President Droupadi Murmu launched a start-up platform for women entrepreneurs created by Gujarat University. The president is on a two-day visit to Gujarat, her first after becoming the President.
The president launched the university's project for women entrepreneurs called "Her Start" on the second day of her two-day visit.
The president mentioned that Gujarat University's campus is home to more than 450 start-up businesses. The university also actively supports over 125 women-owned start-ups. Also as many as 15,000 women entrepreneurs are associated online or offline with this initiative. She expressed her happiness at launching a platform for women entrepreneurs in a university that supports new businesses. She expressed optimism that this platform will help women entrepreneurs innovate and launch new businesses, as well as serve as a useful conduit between them and other public and private organisations.
At an event held at Gujarat University, she also laid the foundation stone for other projects involving education and tribal development.
The President expressed her delight at launching education-related initiatives in Gujarat, particularly those focusing on girls' and tribal education, like the Sainik School, Girls Literacy Residential School, and Eklavya Model Residential School. Because school education will serve as the cornerstone for further bolstering India's standing in science, research, and innovation.
At a ceremony in Gandhinagar on Monday, she dedicated or laid the foundation stone for projects worth Rs. 1,330 crore. At Sabarmati Ashram, she also presented flowers as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
Gujarat has advanced significantly in the area of higher education, the President said. In 2020–21, there will be more than 3,100 institutions in the state, up from 775 in 2001–02. This state also hosts the first education quality and monitoring unit in India, known as the "Garima Cell," which was created to assess higher education. She said that the literacy rate in tribal society has significantly increased as a result of the successful implementation of the "Van Bandhu-Kalyan Yojana". This scheme has also improved the school dropout rate among tribal students.
