BANGALORE: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday called on the scientific community to pursue a path of social responsibility.

Every challenge makes us consider the necessity to confront it and stop its continuation. She addressed a crowd after officially opening the Integrated Cryogenic Engines Manufacturing Facility at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at this location. "Today we need to equip ourselves to tackle not just traditional challenges but the unforeseen ones," she remarked.

She emphasised that social inclusivity and technology advancement should go hand in hand.  The life of the masses can undergo a profound revolution thanks to science. Former President Dr. Abdul Kalam's commitment to native culture should be imitated.

"Recently, Covid-19 posed a serious threat to us. We were rescued from the catastrophe by doctors and scientists. Everywhere has been grateful for our reaction to the pandemic. The largest immunisation campaign in human history has begun. President Murmu noted that the data was superior than that of several wealthy nations.

She referred to the plant's opening as a historic occasion since it marks the establishment of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for cryogenic and semi-cryogenic engines for the entire nation, not just for HAL and the Indian Space and Research Organization (ISRO) and HAL.

This will meet the requirements of the Indian space programmes, contributing to the success of our nation. I will extend my congratulations to everyone connected to this esteemed endeavour, she said.

She referred to ISRO as the pride of the country and HAL as the driving force behind the armed forces.
The HAL Aerospace Division manufactures liquid propellant tanks and launch vehicle structures for the PSLV, GSLV MK-II, and GSLV Mk-III, as well as stage integration for the GSLV Mk-II, according to an official release from HAL.

A significant development in the advancement and modernisation of technology is the Aerospace Division's entry into the fabrication of cryogenic engines.

The most popular engines for launch vehicles worldwide are cryogenic ones. Only the US, France, Japan, China, and Russia have mastered the technology thus far due to its complexity.

India became the sixth nation to build cryogenic engines on January 5, 2014, when it successfully launched the GSLV-D5 with a cryogenic engine (manufactured by ISRO through private firms).

Space exploration in the future is MAINLY dependent upon cryogenic technology.
