Hyderabad : In the petition filed by Mahesh Bank in the Telangana High Court regarding the counting and results of the elections, Justice P. Naveen Rao questioned the state government's interest in the bank elections. Mahesh Bank operates across the country.
A petition was filed last week in connection with the counting of votes, in which the High Court directed the Board of Directors of Mahesh Co-operative Bank Ltd to complete the election process.
The High Court directed the state government to complete the counting of votes by December 28 along with the details of the votes received by each candidate and submit the results and report in a sealed cover.
The court asked the central and state governments whether any action had been taken against the returning officer. The High Court held that since the bank is registered under multi-state co-operative societies, the supervisory authority over the conduct of elections rests with the Central Government and not the State of Telangana.
Meanwhile, a shareholder has filed a petition in the high court seeking re-election of the bank. Disciplinary action is likely to be taken against the returning officer who stopped counting the votes on Monday in the last phase of the election without giving any reason.
