Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court is expected to give its verdict on the hijab ban case in some colleges of the state, amid reports of a controversy over the issue in Mangaluru city. A group of students have claimed that they were allowed to sit for the exam with their heads covered at P Dayanand Pai Government College in Mangaluru, during the exam they encountered a group that was protesting over the issue on Thursday and Friday.

The protesting students claimed that the principal had allowed Muslim girl students to appear in the exam with their heads covered, but without any PIN, which would make it like a hijab. The high court, in its interim order, had said that it had banned religious clothing in colleges where "college development committees have prescribed student dress code".

One of the students, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "After this alleged relaxation, some Muslim girl students arrived at the college on Thursday morning to take their exams when they had an argument with other students and the college management. The principal allowed him to write the exam wearing a shawl on his head without a pin. While we were taking the exam, a group of students came and asked us to leave the room. Who are they who tell us to go?'
