Shimla: Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu's government is considering allowing the cultivation of cannabis in the state as part of an exercise to increase the revenue of debt-ridden Himachal. State CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the state government is considering legalising cannabis cultivation in the state, which will generate revenue for the state. Chief Minister Sukhu said that it would prove effective for the medicinal and industrial sectors. Many medicinal properties are found in cannabis. Its medicinal properties are used in the treatment of patients suffering from cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, etc.

Speaking to the press, CM Sukhu said that the state government has constituted a committee to study the cultivation of cannabis. Five MLAs have been made members of the committee. The committee will visit the areas where illegal cultivation of cannabis takes place. After studying all the aspects in depth, the committee will submit its report to the government within a month. On the basis of this report, the government will take a final decision regarding legalising the cultivation of cannabis.

CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the cultivation of cannabis has gained legal recognition in many countries of the world. In many states of India, the cultivation of cannabis has been kept under the legal purview. In the year 2017, Uttarakhand became the first state in the country to legalise cannabis cultivation. Apart from this, controlled cultivation of cannabis is also done in some districts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. The state government will take a decision keeping all these aspects in mind.
