New Delhi: The Hindu Mahasabha has demanded that the 'Mughal Garden' in the Rashtrapati Bhavan campus be renamed over the country's first President Rajendra Prasad. Hindu Mahasabha chief Swami Chakrapani has said that he also wants to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on this matter.

Chakrapani told news agency IANS that, "We all know that the misconceptions that the Mughals spread during their rule, today, the name of a garden is also unacceptable in the name of the Mughals inside the Rashtrapati Bhavan. That is why it is proposed to be named after the first President of the country." Chakrapani has said that he has sought a time to meet PM Modi and the Union Home Minister and he will meet him and put this issue firmly in front of them.

This is not the first time when the demand has been raised to change the names of buildings named after the Mughals. Apart from this, the name of Aurangzeb Marg in New Delhi was changed and named by former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Apart from this, the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has changed the name of Mughalsarai railway station to Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction.
