Bengaluru: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is going to prepare 500 fighter helicopters for all three Indian Army. HAL has started work on an ambitious project to manufacture 10 to 12 tonnes of indigenous fighter helicopters by the year 2027. The first draft of this military helicopter will be made in 2023 after the government approves the scheme.

According to HAL managing director R Madhavan, these combat helicopters that are planned to be built will be the ones to compete with the world's best military helicopters like Boeing's Apache. HAL has prepared the initial design of these combat helicopters and is targeting to build at least 500 helicopters under the initial plan and if the government approves this year, the first format of the helicopter will be ready in 2023.

The purpose of HAL's ambition plan is to stop the import of helicopters purchased from abroad for crores of rupees for the three Indian armies. The principal director of HAL said that the objective of this project is to reduce the import of combat helicopters by up to four lakh crore rupees. That is, if the government approves this plan of HAL, then India will also benefit from crores due to reduced expenditure on imports of helicopters imported.
