Historic Milestone: Pakistan Welcomes First Sikh Minister in Punjab Province

Lahore: Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, a seasoned legislator with three terms under his belt, took the oath of office on Thursday, marking a historic moment as the first Sikh to assume such a high-ranking position in post-partition Punjab.

Arora has been entrusted with the responsibilities of overseeing the affairs of minorities in Punjab province within Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s cabinet, according to a report by Dawn.com.

A member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Arora secured his seat in the Lahore provincial assembly for the third consecutive term after emerging victorious in the February 8 elections.
Hailing from the district of Narowal, Arora had previously made history as the first Sikh member of the Punjab provincial assembly when he took his oath in 2013.

Khalil Tahir Sindhu also representing the Christian minority community of Punjab, has also been appointed to the Punjab cabinet and has been tasked with overseeing human rights issues.
