New Delhi: Union Home Minister and BJP President Amit Shah is on a tour of Assam today. This is Shah's first visit after the final list of NRC was released. This will be the first North-East visit of Amit Shah as Home Minister. There is a lot of uneasiness among the people about the names of those who have not appeared in the final list of NRC released on 31 August. NRC does not have the names of about 19 lakh people. Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the North East Council (NEC) meeting in Guwahati on September 8.

During this time he will meet the Governor and Chief Ministers of eight states. After the NRC list, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP chief Ranjit Kumar Das said that they were unhappy with NRC as the names of many genuine Indian citizens were not included. Both Sarma and Das had said that the government was likely to take some legislative options to protect the rights of genuine Indians.

Earlier, Amit Shah was to attend the NEC meeting on August 3 and 4, but the meeting was postponed. Significantly, on August 5, the government repealed Article 370, which provided special status to Jammu and Kashmir, due to which the visit of Shah was postponed due to busyness. In such a situation, the eye is on Shah's tour. There is dissatisfaction with this NRC in Assam BJP and the leaders are talking about going to court.
