Lucknow: Preparations are being made to build shelters for the poor on the land freed from the possession of former Samajwadi Party (SP) MP and mafia don Atiq Ahmed. It is reported that the government is preparing houses for the beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) at Lukarganj in Prayagraj. In mid-April, Atiq and his brother Khalid Azeem alias Ashraf were shot dead by three assailants outside Colvin Hospital.

According to a media report, about 76 families will get the benefit of these houses being built under the PM Awas Yojana. The process of their allotment will start from the next financial year. An official has informed that two blocks are being constructed on 1731 square meter land and 3 storey buildings will be built here. He told that 36 houses will be built in one block. Whereas, 40 houses will be built in another. It is being told that more than 6 thousand online applications have been received for these 76 houses.

An official has been quoted in the media report as saying that the Prayagraj Development Authority has received Rs 3.16 crore as guarantee money. These will be verified and houses will be allotted through a lottery. Officials say that the guarantee money will be returned to those who will not get flats under the lottery. The beneficiaries who will get the houses will have to pay Rs 3.5 lakh. It is being told that out of all the applications, about 2 thousand are eligible for allotment.

Let us tell you that these houses are being constructed under the Allahabad West seat. Atiq has been a five-time MLA from Allahabad West and used to speak his name in this area. Means someone in this area was afraid to raise voice against Atiq. Along with this, he was also an MP from Phulpur seat.
