GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat Home Department on July 28 transferred two Police superintendents (SP) and 5 police officers in connection with the Botad hooch tragedy that tolled 46 lives.
Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Raj Kumar transferred Botad District Superintendent of Police Karanraj Vaghela, and appointed him as Commandant of Government Properties, Gandhinagar, while Veerendrasingh Yadav was transferred and posted as Commandant of Metro Security, Ahmedabad. Their replacements will be named soon.
N V Patel, Deputy Superintendent of Police of Dholka Division (Ahmedabad Rural), S K Trivedi, Deputy Superintendent of Police of Botad Division, B G Vala, Police Sub Inspector (Barwala Police Station), Shailendrasinh Rana, Police Sub Inspector (Ranpur Police Station), and K P Jadeja, Police Inspector, have all been suspended by the Home Department (Dhandhuka police station).
"Under your jurisdiction of duty area, poisonous chemical alcohol was sold and consumed by people, as a result of which 42 persons died, many others are under treatment, you have failed to stop transportation, sale, and consumption of illicit liquor, it shows the negligence of duty, you have failed to implement prohibition policy, and thus you are suspended," says Nikunj Jani, Deputy Secretary (Home department).
The ruling goes on to say, "You were disobedient and broke service standards while on duty. You are suspended, and a departmental investigation will be launched; if the charges against you are proven, your services will be terminated."
