The area between Kakinada coast and Hope Island is known as Kakinada Bay. Hope Island acts as a natural barrier from storm surges and is natural break water for the Kakinada coast. The island is an important turtle nesting site for the globally threatened Olive Ridley species.

The island is situated about 10 kilometers off the coast of Kakinada, in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
