In response to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's recent arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Delhi Police has bolstered security around his residence. A two-tier security setup has been implemented, with drones employed for surveillance to uphold law and order. Following a disturbance by around a dozen Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers, including MLA Rakhi Birla, outside Kejriwal's home in Civil Lines, they were briefly detained and later released.
Anticipating Further Protests, Security is Heightened
The police foresee potential large-scale protests by AAP workers on Friday. Consequently, security has been increased outside the ED offices at Akbar Road and APJ Abdul Kalam Road. Multi-layered security arrangements are being devised for Kejriwal's expected court appearance on Friday afternoon. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC may be enforced in various city areas.
Enhanced Security Deployment
In addition to north Delhi police personnel, reserved forces and the Rapid Action Force have been stationed at Kejriwal's residence on Flagstaff Road. Barricades have been erected along the lane leading to the chief minister's official residence. The Special Branch is closely monitoring the situation and keeping track of potential demonstrations.
Precautions Against Potential Violence
Authorities are taking extensive precautions to prevent violence. Speeches by senior AAP leaders are under scrutiny, and district Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) are on high alert. Foot patrols are being conducted in vulnerable areas by police officers, while traffic police are ready to manage any protest-related disruptions.
Emphasis on Citizen Safety
The primary focus of the police is to avert any disruption to the city or entry into sensitive zones in New Delhi. Increased picketing at borders and on roads is in place, with vehicle inspections aimed at identifying potential protesters. The priority remains maintaining law and order and ensuring citizen safety during this tense period.
According to sources statement, city police are closely monitoring activities in critical areas and speeches by senior AAP leaders. District DCPs have been instructed to maintain a heightened state of readiness. Ground officers have been directed to prevent traffic disruptions and uphold law and order.
A senior officer emphasized, "Our primary goal is to prevent any group from disrupting the city or accessing sensitive zones in New Delhi. We've bolstered barricades on roads as part of these efforts."
Future Plans
Police are prepared to take necessary actions to effectively manage the situation. Authorities are closely monitoring developments and stand ready to swiftly respond to any disruptions. These security measures are expected to remain in place until the situation stabilizes.
