Ahmedabad: 283 lions, lionesses and cubs have died in Gir forest, famous for its Asian lions, in the last two years. This has been reported in writing in the Assembly on behalf of the Gujarat government. Gujarat government forest minister Jagdish Vishwakarma has replied in writing to a question posed by an MLA of the opposition Congress.

During the current session of the Gujarat Assembly, Congress MLA from Savarkundla Pratap Dudhat had questioned the death of lions. The answer to this has been given in writing by Forest Minister Jagdish Vishwakarma on behalf of the government. Forest Minister Jagdish Vishwakarma informed the House that 283 lions have lost their lives in the last two years in Gir forest. According to the government, 29 of them died due to accidents.

The Gujarat government told the Assembly that 254 lions have died due to natural causes in the last two years. These include 68 lions, 73 lionesses and 142 cubs. Let us know that there are a large number of leopards along with lions in the Gir forest. The government has also informed the assembly that 242 leopards have also lost their lives in the last two years. According to the information given by the government in the assembly, apart from 242 leopards, their 91 children have also lost their lives.
